HSE Construction Officer

Location:
Athens/Hybrid

Job Summary:

As HSE Construction Officer for Italy, you will join our Health Safety Environment and Quality team within the Operations department. In this role, you will report to the Construction Manager, and functionally to the HSEQ Manager and will have the opportunity to lead in the mitigation of risks in all construction sites in Italy, and guide CG stakeholders on compliance and best practices within the integrated HSE field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement companywide HSE programs/initiatives at sites level and ensure compliance with the company HSEQ management system, relevant procedures, local legislation and other internal or external requirements (ref. To DGLS 81/08, testo unico per la salute e sicurezza sul lavoro, int. Stds ISO450001,14001).
  • Provide support to ensure facilities in scope comply with local, state, and regional HSE regulations and permit requirements.
  • Support site personnel in maintaining full regulatory compliance, mitigating potential liabilities, and avoiding legal penalties.
  • Perform required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual inspection & reporting activities.
  • Providing HSE assistance to management, supervisors, employees, and collateral duty safety representatives.
  • Developing and delivering HSE training in one-on-one, group, classroom, and/or web-delivered media.
  • Provide regulatory oversight, leadership, and directions to personnel regarding day-to-day compliance with HSE permits and regulations.
  • Assist with developing HSE budgets and managing expenses related to regulatory needs.
  • Provide professional interface with regulators and officials, including preparing for and coordinating inspections, responding to information requests, developing strategies, permit modifications and renewals, and reviewing routine compliance.
  • Lead in incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action, and enter relevant data into the company's HSE management system.
  • Enter all monthly required HSE data into the company's HSE management systems and monitor site performance against the company's established KPIs.
  • Investigating complaints and reports of unsafe or unhealthful working conditions; provide recommendations for abatement action; and verify completion of abatement action.
  • Maintaining recordkeeping for injury/illness cases
  • Oversee and coordinate activities of contractors and vendors engaged ensuring coordination of HSE mitigation and monitoring procedures.
  • Assess regulatory risk and potential consequences associated with operational changes to help mitigate penalties or sanctions, and lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Provide coaching, assistance, and tools to all levels of the business to promote a culture in which HSE compliance is at the forefront of each discussion being made.

Qualifications and Skills:

Your profile is a natural match if you have:

  • Associates or undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in relevant program area and some specialization in the relevant fields, preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in the Health, Safety, & Environmental Field, preferably in the Energy construction industry.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and efficiently with individuals at different levels throughout the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a record of consensus-building among internal and external parties.
  • An ability to review regulations, decipher them, and be able to pinpoint applicable regulatory requirements.
  • The ability to communicate the applicable regulatory requirements in a way individuals at all levels of the organization can clearly understand the requirements and what needs to be done in order to comply.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple sources.
  • Perform and manage multiple tasks in an construction environment and to promptly identify and analyze complex compliance risks.
  • Computer literate, with expert-level knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • High level of commitment to excellence in regulatory performance and compliance.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as good planning and organizational skills.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license. Driving in company business is a requirement of this position.
  • Overnight and short-term travel on company business is an expected part of this position, 75% travel to facilities and off-site activities.
