We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior EU Consultant to lead our EU projects team. In this role, you will combine strategic project development and proposal writing with hands-on project management and team leadership. You will supervise a small but dynamic team of EU Consultants, manage complex EU-funded projects both for Headway and on behalf of our clients, and lead the creation of competitive proposals that secure funding and maximize the visibility and impact of our work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and oversee the full lifecycle of EU-funded projects, ensuring timely delivery of milestones, objectives and high-quality outputs
• Supervise, mentor, and coordinate a small team of EU Consultants, fostering effective collaboration, skills development, and knowledge sharing
• Take a leading role in the development of competitive EU project proposals, from identifying funding opportunities and designing project concepts to drafting content, coordinating partners, and submitting applications
• Conduct in-depth research on funding calls, guidelines, and EU policy priorities to ensure alignment and competitiveness of proposals
• Write, edit, and proofread technical and non-technical content (applications, reports, policy briefs), ensuring clarity, coherence, and compliance with funding programme requirements (e.g. Horizon, Erasmus+, Interreg)
• Coordinate internal teams and liaise with external partners, ensuring high-quality contributions and smooth collaboration across consortia
• Establish and maintain collaborations with research institutions, universities, industry stakeholders, NGOs, and public authorities across Europe
• Ensure proposals highlight Headway's expertise, track record, and innovation potential, while supporting the post-submission process, including contractual negotiations, debriefings, and responses to follow-up requests
• Monitor emerging trends, policy developments, and best practices to continuously improve the quality and success rate of proposals
• Represent Headway and its clients in European networks, events, and meetings

KEY REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in European Studies, Political Science, Economics, Public Policy, or related fields
• At least 5 years of proven experience in managing and coordinating EU-funded projects (e.g. Horizon, Erasmus+, Interreg)
• Strong and proven track record in preparing successful EU project proposals
• Excellent project management skills, including budgeting and team coordination
• Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring small teams
• Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
• Excellent command of English; knowledge of additional EU language(s) is an asset
• Knowledge of digital tools and AI-supported project monitoring platforms
• Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and target groups
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and decision-making abilities
