Fertilysis is seeking an experienced Director of Laboratory Operations & R&D to lead and further develop its advanced diagnostic laboratory as the company continues to grow. This senior role combines laboratory operations, quality oversight, and R&D, with substantial autonomy and close collaboration with the Scientific & Medical Director.

Role Overview

This position is designed for a scientist with strong academic training, deep technical expertise, and proven diagnostic laboratory leadership, capable of combining hands-on problem solving with strategic laboratory management and assay development. Overall responsibility for the scientific, operational, and developmental direction of the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily laboratory operations, performance, and readiness
  • Manage, supervise, and develop laboratory personnel
  • Oversee quality systems, SOPs, and laboratory accreditations
  • Ensure equipment functionality, consumables availability, and workflow efficiency
  • Review and quality-control diagnostic test results
  • Develop, optimize, and validate diagnostic assays and methodologies
  • Resolve complex technical and methodological challenges
  • Design and supervise laboratory and clinical validation studies
  • Conduct retrospective analyses using laboratory and clinical data
  • Author and contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications

·      Scientifically review and validate diagnostic test results

  • Represent Fertilysis scientifically with clinics, partners, and at conferences

Method Development & R&D

  • Development of new laboratory methodologies based on current scientific literature
  • Continuous improvement of existing diagnostic techniques
  • Assay development, validation, and analytical performance evaluation
  • Adaptation and improvement of existing market assays

Laboratory Expertise

Hands-on experience in multiple areas, including:

  • PCR / qPCR
  • Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
  • Flow Cytometry
  • Immunoassays (e.g. ELISA)
  • Cell culture
  • Molecular & cellular diagnostics
  • Hybridization techniques

Required Qualifications

  • PhD (mandatory); postdoctoral experience desirable
  • Proven leadership experience in a diagnostic laboratory environment
  • Broad technical expertise and strong scientific judgment
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Exposure to regulatory frameworks (EU IVDR, CE-IVD, or equivalent)
