About the role
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Accounting Department, and support the day-to-day financial and accounting operations of the company, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timey reporting aross all accounting activities.
Reporting to and working closely with the Accounting Manager, the Assistant Accountant plays a key role in maintaining financial recors, processing vessel-related transactions, and supporting the preparation of financial statements and reports.
This position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic maritime environment, contributing to the company's financial integrity and operational efficiency.
Key responsibilties:
- Prepare journal entries and bank reconciliations
- Record and monitor accounts payable and receivable transactions
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of all accounting records
- Process and record vessel-related expenses such as port charges, crew wages, bunkers, repairs, insurance, and technical supplies
- Reconcile vessel accounts and prepare vessel-specific financial reports for owners
- Support external and internal audits by providing required documentation and schedules
- Ensure compliance with international accounting standards and company financial policies
- Support tax and statutory filings as required
- Assist with invoice processing, payment runs, and supplier management
- Support the finance team in the implementation of accounting software or system updates
- Perform other ad hoc tasks as assigned by management
Requirements
The ideal candidate would possess:
- University degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- Professional certification (i.e. ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) in progress or completed will be considered an advantage
- 2-4 years of accounting or auditing experience, preferably within the shipping or maritime industry
- Expeirence in vessel accounting and familiarity with Benefit ERP will be considered an asset
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good knowledge of ERP systems
- A proactive and detail-oriented mindset, with the ability to work accurately and effectively within a team environment
