R&D Technician – Marine Unmanned Systems

MARESCO LTD is seeking a capable and detail-oriented R&D Technician to support the development, integration, and testing of next-generation autonomous marine platforms. This is a hands-on role within a collaborative research environment—ideal for someone with technical expertise and a drive to build and test real-world systems.

Position Overview

The R&D Technician will support assembly, integration, and field testing of mechanical and electronic subsystems for unmanned surface and underwater platforms. Based on your background and interests, your work will focus on one of two technical domains:

POSITION 1: Mechanical & Assembly Technician

Focus:
Hardware integration, mechanical systems, and structural setup

Responsibilities:

· Assist in the mechanical assembly and integration of underwater or surface vehicles and prototypes

· Install structural components, propulsion modules, and waterproof housings

· Support protype fabrication and workshop activities (e.g., CNC machining, 3D printing, composite work)

· Conduct pre-deployment hardware checks, (buoyancy, structural alignment, fittings), and maintenance

· Interpret CAD drawings and technical documentation for builds

Tools & Skills:

· Familiarity with handling/Use mechanical tools and workshop equipment (drills, torque tools, alignment gauges)

· Ability to read and apply engineering drawings (SolidWorks, etc.)

· CAD interpretation for manufacturing/assembly (SolidWorks drawings, etc.)

· Hands-on experience with 3D printing or fabrication is a plus

· Basic familiarity with materials like composites, plastics, and marine-grade metals and structural assembly

POSITION 2: Electrical & Embedded Systems Technician

Focus:
Sensor installation, electronics integration, wiring, embedded hardware setup, and system diagnostics

Responsibilities:

· Assist in wiring, soldering, and integration of sensors, microcontrollers, and embedded systems

· Assist in system testing, debugging, and real-time monitoring

· Perform diagnostics on communication protocols (CAN, I2C, UART, etc.)

· Assist engineers with lab or field deployments (connectivity, battery, telemetry, etc.)

· Follow procedures for flashing firmware and running hardware tests

Tools & Skills:

· Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and test instruments

· Familiarity with microcontroller platforms (Arduino, STM32, etc.)

· Understanding of communication protocols (CAN, UART, I2C)

· Experience with cable routes, connector crimping, and waterproof enclosures

Field Testing Support (Common to Both Positions)

· Participate in the
deployment and recovery
of marine systems

· Conduct pre-mission system checks, sensor alignment, and tethering

· Troubleshoot field issues and assist engineers during sea trials

· Follow safety protocols and data logging procedures

Candidate Profile

· Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in: Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics, Mechatronics, Marine Engineering Technology, or a related field

· years of experience in assembly, diagnostics, or prototyping of electromechanical systems (academic or industrial)

· Interest in marine technology, robotics, and multidisciplinary R&D

· Ability to work under supervision, follow procedures, and contribute in team settings

· Good technical documentation and communication skills (in English)
