Description
Based in Athens, you will lead Aurora's analysis on the EU Emissions Trading System as well as Thermal Technologies. You will be a senior member of the Pan-European team, which is a transversal (horizontal) team that provides Pan-European insights to Aurora's clients and supports the work of individual power market teams within Aurora. Examples of recent work in the carbon team include:

  • Providing Aurora's EU Carbon market price forecast and carbon market report, incorporating the latest trends in the EU's industry and power sector, as well as policy developments into our carbon market model.
  • Improving Aurora's views on Industrial, Maritime and Aviation Decarbonisation technologies
  • Researching Thermal Power Generation Technology Costs & Characteristics

You will play a key role in all aspects of project and product delivery regarding carbon and thermal technologies in Europe – managing projects, directing our ongoing research, conducting novel analyses, identifying client needs and new business opportunities and presenting your findings to clients.

The successful applicant will combine strong quantitative ability with a track record of performance in team-orientated environments. The successful candidate would come with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience at a research or consulting firm or a company in the energy sector, and ideally a strong background in carbon markets. The exact entry position will be dependent on experience and educational level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Aurora's work on the EU Emissions Trading System, as well as Thermal Technology Assumptions, directing 1-2 colleagues
  • Work closely with our modelling team, structuring economic problems into quantifiable analyses and deriving insights from the model results.
  • Represent Aurora on the topic of carbon markets in workshops and conferences and engage with clients to thoroughly understand their interests and gain new insights.
  • Monitor European power, industry and carbon policies and market developments, feeding assumptions back into the model and lead in writing policy briefings.
  • Closely align with internal stakeholders from different European power market teams on assumptions and scenario definitions.
  • Contribute to our Aurora's product developments, by identifying new opportunities and expanding our capabilities.

What we are looking for
Required attributes:

  • At least 5 years of experience at a leading consultancy, energy company, investment bank or other knowledge-driven firms or institutions (e.g. Think tank, Research or university institute).
  • A university degree in either a quantitative subject, coupled with a keen interest in policy developments, or a social science, environmental studies or a related field, coupled with experience in quantitative analysis.
  • Experience in Carbon & Power Markets and/or Industrial Decarbonisation
  • Demonstrated success in project and process management in team-orientated environments.
  • A proven ability to collect, analyse and interpret complex quantitative data and information.
  • An ability to communicate and collaborate with both technical and non-technical parties.
  • Proficiency (C1 Level) in English (and ideally another European language).

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience in developing or working with energy system and/or optimization models.
  • Experience in carbon mitigation options in further sectors (e.g. road transport, space heating, maritime and aviation)
  • Experience in managing project teams.
