General Area of Responsibility
The Demurrage team is responsible for the accurate and timely review, issuance, negotiation and settlement of demurrage claims associated with tanker and bulk voyages - maximizing demurrage recovery and minimizing demurrage exposure while maintaining compliance with all Companies values. The Demurrage team provides direct support to Operations and Chartering on demurrage matters.
Specific Areas of Responsibility
As a Demurrage/claims Analyst you will report to the Demurrage Manager. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Analyze Contracts, Charter Parties and voyage documents, clarify events with Agents, Masters, Brokers, Operators and Charterers and calculate demurrage
- Invoice customers (counterparties) with full supporting documentation, ensuring claims are correctly submitted within time bar.
- Actively pursue payment of invoices by customers, ensuring prompt settlement.
- Receive, log in company's systems, and analyze demurrage or post-fixture claims to customers, and owners. Ensure any rechargeable cost is rebilled to customers.
- Negotiate with customers and vessel owners as to the correctness of demurrage or post-fixture claims pursuant contract and charterparty terms and ensure smooth and professional resolution while protecting company's interests.
- Ensure all income or expenditure is captured in deal's P&L and its changes are understood and communicated across the stakeholders
Required Skills/Competencies
- Must be educated to degree level (preferably in shipping studies).
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience in the shipping industry.
- Excellent written and spoken English. Ability to effectively communicate through both written correspondence and verbal communication.
- Good understanding of key laytime/demurrage provisions and the terminology associated with the petroleum commodities.
- Strong facilitation, planning, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills with preference for action, accountability, and finding solutions.
- Strong desire for personal development and sharing of skills with others.
- Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite and a working knowledge of commercial systems (preferably IMOS) and the ability to learn new systems as required.
