Main Purpose:
We are recruiting for an expert data and analytics engineer to work directly with the traders and research analysts in our global Metals trading teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced commercial setting, playing a vital role in a real time, data and software driven trading environment.

The engineer will be part of the global data science and engineering team who are responsible for the ingestion and management of market and fundamental data, sophisticated modelling techniques, data & analytics applications and solutions.

You will be technically leading and building applications and software using cutting edge cloud and software technology stacks. Building end to end software platforms and stacks in a modern and innovation fuelled business.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related subject
  • 5+ years of Python and SQL
  • AWS experience (E.g. S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda)
  • Experience with relational databases & enterprise scale data systems
  • Any experience with object databases/NoSQL is a plus
  • Prior front office experience or any commodity experience is a plus

  • Outstanding communication and ability to interact with a diverse set of partners across business lines and technology
  • Understanding and experience implementing software engineering best practices
  • Ability to tackle problems under pressure
  • Ability to effectively prioritise tasks of high importance

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering solutions to complex business problems
  • Building and maintaining time critical data integration pipelines (ETL/ELT)
  • Building cloud-based data and analytics tools and solutions
  • Design appropriate data models for a variety of internal and external datasets
  • Contribute to the automation of processes on the trading desk
  • Develop a deep understanding of technical projects on the desk in order to better serve commercial needs

The Data Science and Engineering team researches, develops, and provides sophisticated analytics and data services and applications to the trading business, and other commercial operations at Trafigura.

The team heavily relies on data, analysis and process automation. They are looking to work with someone who can develop an understanding of their business and ultimately take ownership for a variety of technical applications and processes on the desk.
