Regional Supply Center Supervisor

Athens, Attica, Greece Texas Department of Transportation Full time €104,000 - €130,878 per year

Oversees the operation of a Regional Supply Center and a Regional Sign Shop production facility serving multiple districts, and supervises a group of technical, administrative, and clerical employees engaged in records maintenance, ordering, receiving, storing, retrieving, and issuing commodities; and designing, manufacturing, tracking, and verifying, storing, issuing, and shipping signs. Work requires contact with districts and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:

  • Ensures commodity and sign inventory levels are properly maintained and all commodities and signs are of good quality and meet specifications.
  • Reviews new sign design standards.
  • Oversees sign shop operations and supervises employees engaged in designing and manufacturing signs, maintaining adequate stock, tracking and verification, storing, issuing and shipping signs.
  • Oversees timely physical inventories of stocked items.
  • Reviews, authorizes and approves all work orders.
  • Serves as liaison between districts, divisions and warehouse operations and coordinates timely ordering 
    and delivery of roadway maintenance materials and/or signs.
  • Advises, trains, and instructs employees in warehousing policies and procedures.
  • Answers complaints on commodities and/or warehouse operations in a timely fashion.
  • Disposes of hazardous material waste.
  • Disposes of surplus, obsolete, and/or salvaged commodities.
  • Ensures back orders are monitored and brought up to date
  • Ensures that warehouse buildings and/or equipment are properly maintained, and stock and issuing records are maintained.
  • Monitors warehouse inventories for compliance with Materials and Supplies Management System (MSMS) procedures.
  • Oversees warehouse operations and supervises employees engaged in record/file maintenance, tracking/verification, ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, and shipping commodities to maintenance sections, districts, and divisions.
  • Plans and conducts personnel safety and shop or warehouse protection activities.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Management or related field. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 

  • 5 years of experience in warehouse operations, inventory control or purchasing.  Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

  • Must have three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

  • Safety methods and procedures associated with warehousing hazardous materials
  • Budgeting methods and procedures

  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Traffic Control Standard Sheets
  • Standard Highway Sign Designs for Texas
  • Purchasing methods and procedures 

    Expert skill in:

  • Researching, analyzing, and interpreting policies and state and federal laws and regulations specific to functional area
  • Using, maintaining and repairing of tools and equipment of the trade 

    Proficient skill in:
  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
  • Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment
  • Preparing correspondence/documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; proofreading and reviewing documents for clarity and consistency
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files and reports
  • Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Maintaining a safe working relationship

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
  • Subject to atmospheric conditions-fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation
  • Works in narrow aisles or passageways
  • Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
  • Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc
  • Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
