Geoscience Data Manager Job Description

About the Role

We seek an experienced Geoscience Data Manager to join our team. This role involves maximizing data usage and leading projects for large-scale clean-up, migration, and restructuring. The successful candidate will ensure that changes to information systems are secure, transparent, and aligned with our company strategy.

This position requires strong expertise in storing, managing, quality controlling, and ensuring data integrity covering all disciplines such as geology, geophysics, wells, production, facilities, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain our geophysical and geological databases, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Oversee the storage, retrieval, and archiving of seismic data, well logs, and other geological and geophysical datasets.
  • Implement and enforce data management policies and procedures.

Quality Control:

  • Conduct regular data quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of G&G data.
  • Collaborate with geoscientists and engineers to resolve data discrepancies and issues.

Data Distribution:

  • Facilitate the distribution and accessibility of G&G data to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain data catalogs and metadata for easy data discovery and access.
  • Support data requests from geologists, geophysicists, and other technical staff.

Spatial Data Management:

  • Manage spatial data using ArcGIS and other GIS tools.
  • Create and maintain geospatial databases, maps, and related documentation.
  • Perform spatial analysis to support exploration and production activities.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure the proper functioning of data management systems.
  • Provide training and support to geoscientists and engineers on data management practices and tools.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and technical documents using G&G data.

Data Integration:

  • Integrate various types of G&G data to support multidisciplinary projects.
  • Work with external data vendors and partners to acquire and incorporate new datasets.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geoinformatics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in managing seismic data, well logs, and other geological data.
  • Strong knowledge of spatial data management and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS).
  • Familiarity with data management systems and tools (e.g., dB software, Petrel, Petrel Studio).
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or SQL for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Certification in data management (e.g., DAMA, PMP) is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of cloud-based data storage solutions.
