Operations Manager Job Description

This is a key role responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant execution of voyages, both ashore and onboard. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of the fleet and lead negotiations with charterers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the smooth operational performance of the managed fleet.
  • Lead negotiations of secondary Charter Party terms and monitor the finalization of C/Ps.
  • Oversee all aspects of shipping operations including:
    • Bunker supply arrangements
    • Port calls, port disbursement reviews and settlements
    • Freight billing and collection
    • Cost analysis and compliance with charterers' requirements
  • Maintain full compliance with Charter Party terms and internal policies.
  • Monitor vessel movements and voyage progress by:
    • Communicating with Masters and onboard officers
    • Supervising the processing of performance data and voyage planning
    • Ensuring continuous and efficient voyage performance to warranted requirements
  • Liaise with charterers, brokers, agents, P&I Clubs, and other stakeholders.
  • Address any voyage-related queries, disputes, or operational issues.
  • In cooperation with technical managers, oversee procurement and inventory management of deck and cabin stores, paints, ropes, navigation equipment, and medical supplies:
    • Review and approve requisitions from vessels
    • Ensure timely delivery and resolve any supply issues
  • In cooperation with crew managers, screen and interview officers prior to embarkation.
  • Provide crew instructions and monitor the condition of cargo holds, hatch covers, deck equipment, and consumables.
  • Supervise e-filing procedures according to company protocols.
  • Contribute to the preparation of internal management reports.

Requirements:

  • Class A' Captain with at least two service periods aboard dry bulk carriers
  • University degree in shipping or maritime related fields
  • Minimum of five years' experience as Operations Manager / Fleet Manager for bulk carriers
  • Strong understanding of maritime regulations and shipping operations
  • Proficiency in performance data analysis and financial assessment
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring tools, loading software and MS Office
  • Experience in maritime audits, including Rightship inspections and reporting
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making ability
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in both Greek and English
  • Solid experience in managing and evaluating team performance
  • Strong budgeting and cost control awareness
