FTTH Technician - Optical Fiber Installation Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cable Drop Installation: Deploy fiber optic cables from the distribution point to individual buildings, ensuring proper routing and protection using microduct bundles or cable protection tubes.
  • Splicing in Distribution Point Boxes: Perform high-precision fiber optic splicing using fusion splicers, connecting drop cables to main feeder cables with minimal signal loss.
  • Wall-Mounted Box Installation: Install and secure termination boxes on exterior home walls, ensuring weatherproofing and accessibility for further connection.
  • Fiber Connection Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct end-to-end testing of fiber connections using OTDRs and power meters to verify signal integrity and troubleshoot faults.
  • Collaboration and Site Assessments: Collaborate with civil teams to align schedules and with local partners to address permitting restrictions during site visits.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of splicing and testing equipment to ensure operational readiness.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 1-2+ years of experience in FTTH or telecom OSP/ISP projects with expertise in fiber optic splicing and cable drop installation.
  • Proficiency with fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and cable preparation tools.
  • Knowledge of FTTH infrastructure including microduct bundles and wall-mounted ONT enclosures.
  • Brief understanding of grounding and low-voltage electrical work for wall-mounted box installations.
