We are now looking for a
Head of AI/ML
to lead our applied AI efforts across research, product development, and business strategy.

About the Role

As Head of AI/ML, you will steer ITML's vision for Artificial Intelligence — shaping how we research, build, and scale intelligent systems across domains such as Generative AI, multimodal reasoning, edge and federated intelligence, and responsible AI.

This is both a strategic and hands-on leadership role: you'll define our AI roadmap, guide a team of engineers and researchers, and ensure excellence from concept to production.

You'll also play a key role in client engagements and proposal development, representing ITML's AI vision to partners, institutions, and strategic stakeholders.

What You'll Do

1. Technical & Strategic Leadership

• Define and execute ITML's AI/ML strategy, aligning research and product priorities with business goals.
• Lead architectural design and code reviews for AI-based solutions — including LLM and RAG systems, multimodal and agentic models, edge AI, and IoT intelligence frameworks.
• Drive innovation in trustworthy and human-aligned AI, ensuring explainability, robustness, and compliance with EU AI standards.
• Represent ITML's expertise in EU-funded R&D, commercial proposals, and partnerships, translating complex AI concepts into clear strategic narratives.

2. Team Oversight & Mentorship

• Oversee and grow ITML's AI/ML team — engineers, data scientists, and research fellows report directly to you.
• Partner with the ML Tech Lead to ensure high engineering standards (MLOps, CI/CD, reproducibility, versioning).
• Mentor and empower team members through design reviews, research discussions, and technical coaching.
• Promote a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and open knowledge-sharing.

3. Project Delivery & AI Ownership

• Act as the AI/ML point of contact (PoC) for internal and external stakeholders.
• Translate abstract client or research requirements into clear deliverables and technical plans.
• Ensure delivery quality and model reliability across both R&D and production environments.
• Balance innovation and production readiness — guiding when to experiment, iterate, or industrialize.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

• MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in applied AI/ML, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record in deploying AI/ML solutions to production (preferably in cloud environments).
• Strong expertise in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and frameworks for LLMs, NLP, and RAG architectures.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills — capable of bridging research and business.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience leading AI initiatives in EU-funded R&D contexts (Horizon, Digital Europe, or EDF).
• Familiarity with multi-agent architectures, federated and edge AI, or knowledge graph-enhanced reasoning.
• Experience with cloud AI stacks (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and MLOps pipelines.
• Understanding of AI ethics, governance, and evaluation frameworks.
