Electrical Engineer – Electric Motor Design and Powertrain Optimization

What to Expect

Tesla's Motor Design team drives multi-physics optimization activities for the electric motors of all production vehicles. Electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical aspects of motor design and production-related constraints are considered within advanced multi-objective optimization problems aiming to maximize performance and efficiency and minimize cost.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with minimum 1 year of experience to work as part of the Tesla motor technology team located in Athens, Greece. As a member of the motor design team, you will work with modeling and optimization of traction motors and EV powertrains, considering real EV specifications. You will be challenged with complex optimization problems, involving multiple and conflicting criteria, and decision-making, considering optimal design trade-offs.

Η ομάδα ασχολείται με την ηλεκτρομαγνητική, θερμική και μηχανική ανάλυση των κινητήρων με ταυτόχρονη θεώρηση περιορισμών σχετικών με την διαδικασία παραγωγής, μέσα σε πολυκριτηριακά προβλήματα βελτιστοποίησης, με στόχο τη μεγιστοποίηση της επίδοσης και της απόδοσης και την ελαχιστοποίηση του κόστους.

Η Tesla αναζητά έναν ηλεκτρολόγο μηχανικό με 1 χρόνο εμπειρίας στη μοντελοποίηση και βελτιστοποίηση κινητήριων συστημάτων με ηλεκτρικές μηχανές. Ο υποψήφιος θα εργάζεται με την ομάδα ανάπτυξης τεχνολογίας ηλεκτρικών μηχανών στην Αθήνα, Ελλάδα, προς υψηλότερης ακρίβειας μοντελοποίηση ηλεκτρικών μηχανών και βελτιστοποίηση του κινητήριου συστήματος.

What You'll Do

• Perform electrical machine and powertrain design
• Develop advanced functions to model motor, drive unit and powertrain performance
• Perform DU/powertrain system optimization functions based on multiple criteria
• Perform coupled electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical motor performance optimization
• Process big data, select the most compelling candidates and visualize the results

• Apply numerical optimization and visualization of multi-objective tradeoffs

What You'll Bring

• Education in Electrical Engineering
• Strong mathematical and physics background
• Very good understanding of electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical modeling
• Very good understanding of EV powertrain systems and EV dynamics
• Strong programming skills
• Experience analyzing electric motors using Finite Element Method
• Understanding of optimization algorithms

The following will be considered as plus:

• Power electronics and control fundamentals
• Experience with numerical optimization and visualization of multi-objective tradeoffs

• Understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer

• Εμπειρία στη μοντελοποίηση ηλεκτρικών μηχανών με μεθόδους πεπερασμένων στοιχείων
• Κατανόηση βασικών αρχών βελτιστοποίησης

Επιθυμητά προσόντα:

• Γνώση ηλεκτρονικών ισχύος και βασικών αρχών θεωρίας ελέγχου
• Εμπειρία στην αριθμητική βελτιστοποίηση και οπτικοποίηση πολυκριτηριακων προβλημάτων
• Κατανόηση θερμοδυναμικής και μεταφοράς θερμότητας
