Job Scope

Given the substantial growth and world-wide expansion of our Metals & Minerals Operations desk, we have established a dedicated Metals & Minerals team in our office in Athens to strengthen and support the growth of our commercial activities. Our Athens team works on trading operations and execution. As an Alumina/Concentrates Operator, you will have full accountability on managing accounts.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will oversee all operational aspects throughout the full lifecycle of a trade.

Logistics:

  • Coordinate and manage the shipping and logistics for various types of cargo (including bulk, containers, rail wagons, trucks, barges, and storage) in alignment with trading allocations while optimizing and controlling logistics costs.
  • Coordinate issuance and timely delivery of the shipping documentation required for purchase/ sale, export/import and transit of the cargos
  • Perform KYC and due diligence process for counterparties, warehouses and service providers.
  • Handle bulk vessel nominations and conduct vessel vetting in accordance with the internal vetting policy.
  • Coordinate customs formalities and ensure compliance with local regulations pertaining to the commodity and business operations.

Contracts:

  • Collaborate with the contract administration team to review and draft contracts.
  • Facilitate internal and external coordination to negotiate and finalize agreement on contractual clauses.

Manage exposure/payments:

  • Oversee payments to and from counterparties, ensuring compliance with contractual provisions.
  • Manage cargo exposure of the counterparties on a regular basis.
  • Work closely with the Trade Finance team to ensure compliance with the Letter of Credit (LC) management procedures.
  • Manage various methods of payments (Documentary LC, TT, Standby LC, Prepayment) in coordination with the Credit team.

Quantity and Quality management:

  • Coordinate quality and quantity control of cargo, ensuring supervision appointments are arranged with the selected inspection company.
  • Arrange for sample analysis and facilitate the finalization of assays, either through Assay Exchange or Final & Binding agreements.
  • Work closely with the WSMD team to address quality and quantity challenges during operations.Manage and execute cargo allocations.
  • Organize execution of blending operations.

Stock Management:

  • Manage inventory across multiple locations by organizing stock inspections and conducting monthly stock reconciliations in accordance with company policies.

Hedging and pricing:

  • Ensure timely and accurate updates in the operations system.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to implement the company's hedging procedures.
  • Collect QP confirmation emails and promptly declare QP options in accordance with contractual provisions.

Technical Qualifications

  • Holder of a University Degree in Business, Engineering, Trading, Shipping or related.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience in operations and/or trading roles within the shipping or commodity trading industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in bulk shipments and/or metals, minerals, concentrates shipments is required.
  • Knowledge of international trade and logistics is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent command of English, PC literacy.
  • Possess strong communication skills and effectively engage with external counterparties.
  • Demonstrate the ability to find innovative and optimal logistics solutions.
  • Be prepared to work in a dynamic environment alongside the commercial trading team.
  • Possess good numerical/analytical skills required for operational costs review.
  • Be involved in evaluation and improvement of operational processes and systems.
  • Good team player with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Capable of working effectively under tight deadlines and within established parameters.
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, able to take responsibility and performance driven.
