Head of Waste Management

As part of our strategic growth, we are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Waste Management to lead and oversee all waste-related operations in our construction projects located in the Attica Region and Northern Greece. This leadership role is critical in ensuring full regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and sustainability across all phases of construction and post-construction waste handling.

Role Overview

The Head of Waste Management will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive waste management strategies across multiple project sites. This includes supervising teams, managing subcontractors, ensuring legal and environmental compliance, and optimizing processes for the effective handling, transport, disposal, and recycling of waste. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, regulatory familiarity, and leadership skills to build and maintain an integrated waste management system aligned with the company's goals and ESG strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise the waste management engineering team.
• Develop and implement site-specific and project-wide waste management strategies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with Greek and EU environmental and waste management legislation, including proper permits and licenses.
• Supervise the classification, collection, segregation, transportation, and disposal of all waste streams generated on-site.
• Liaise with subcontractors and third-party waste service providers to ensure compliance and performance.
• Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments related to waste handling and environmental impact.
• Provide training, guidance, and support to project teams on waste-related best practices.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports for internal tracking and regulatory submissions.
• Support sustainability goals through waste reduction, recycling initiatives, and resource optimization.
• Collaborate closely with HSE, Site Management, and Procurement to integrate waste policies into broader operational workflows.
• Represent the company in discussions with environmental authorities or during external audits.

Requirements

Professional Experience

• Minimum of 7–10 years of professional experience in waste management, ideally within the construction, energy, or industrial sectors.
• Experience handling hazardous materials and overseeing cross-border waste shipments.
• Proven experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and high environmental compliance demands.
• Previous experience in leading teams and external service providers.

Academic Background & Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Waste Management, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant technical discipline.
• Familiarity with Greek and EU environmental and waste management frameworks (Ν. 4819/2021, ΠΔ 148/2009, ADR, DGSA etc.).
• Valid environmental management certifications (e.g., ISO 14001 Lead Auditor) or equivalent credentials will be an asset.
• RAMS certification will be considered an advantage.

Languages & Technical Capabilities

• Fluent in Greek and English (written and spoken).
• Additional knowledge of Italian will be an advantage.
• Proficient in MS Office; additional familiarity with environmental compliance software is an advantage.
• Familiarity with digital waste tracking platforms and reporting tools.
