Information Manager for Sustainable Development

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is a leading global environmental authority. As an Information Manager, you will play a key role in promoting the coherent implementation of sustainable development within the UN system.
This position is located in the Ecosystems Division at the Coordinating Unit for the Mediterranean Action Plan - Barcelona Convention Secretariat. Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Coordinator, you will be responsible for developing and implementing information programmes to publicize priority issues and major events related to sustainable development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing information strategies to promote sustainable development goals;
- Monitoring and analyzing current events, public opinion, and press coverage related to sustainable development;
- Promoting and coordinating media coverage of priority issues and major events;
- Proposing, arranging, and participating in press conferences and other special events;
- Establishing and running a centralized library network with automated access to information and data;
- Developing and maintaining information architecture for the websites of the MAP Barcelona Convention Secretariat;
- Planning and coordinating exhibitions and side events during meetings of the Conferences of the Parties and their subsidiary bodies;
- Participating in the planning and preparation of the budget, work programme, and spending plan for the information programme of the Secretariat;
You will work closely with international and national partners to provide technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy and strengthen the environmental management capacity of developing countries.
To succeed in this role, you will need a strong background in communication, journalism, or a related field, as well as experience in public administration, international relations, or a related area. You should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in these fields.
A bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a related field is desirable. You should also have fluency in English and French, which are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Knowledge of other UN Mediterranean languages is desirable.
