The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), the third oldest university in Greece, has been dedicated to advancing agricultural sciences for over 80 years. Located in a 25-hectare green campus close to central Athens, the university features state-of-the-art facilities, including 41 laboratories, experimental fields. AUA is renowned for its seven faculties, which cater to a broad spectrum of agricultural and fisheries disciplines, offering specialized degrees and hands-on training. Its undergraduate programs combine rigorous academic instruction with practical experience to equip students for successful careers in agriculture and environmental science. The AUA will lead a four-year EMFF funded research project for recently established Fisheries Restricted Areas in the Aegean Sea.
Role Description
The Agricultural University of Athens is seeking three (3) full-time Researchers specializing in marine biology, ecology, and fisheries. Based in Athens, the Researchers will conduct in situ and in vitro fieldwork and laboratory experiments, complemented by data analysis to study marine ecosystems and fisheries in the Aegean Sea. Responsibilities include designing and executing research studies, analyzing ecological and biological data, and contributing to scholarly articles and reports. The Researcher will collaborate with academic and industry partners to advance knowledge in marine conservation and sustainable fisheries management.
Qualifications
- Strong quantitative skills, including sample collection, processing, and analysis
- Expertise in marine biology/ecology, with a focus on marine ecosystems and their functioning
- Proficiency in conducting research, including experimental design and data interpretation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A Master's and/or Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Ecology, Fisheries Science, or a related field is required
- Documented expertise in the use of statistical software such as R is advantageous
- Documented expertise with peer-reviewed articles are considered a strong asset
- Greek and/or English
