Technical Superintendent

Job Summary:

Costamare is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to join its Dry Bulk technical team.

The ideal candidate should have at least three years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the dry bulk segment, and a solid technical background in vessel maintenance, drydock planning, and performance monitoring.

The role focuses on coordinating and overseeing 3rd-party technical managers, ensuring that the fleet operates safely, efficiently, and within budget.

The Superintendent will work closely with internal stakeholders and report directly to the Head of Technical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the technical performance of vessels managed by third-party managers.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) including OPEX, off-hire days, and fuel performance.
  • Review and evaluate monthly management reports, budgets, and technical expenditure.
  • Coordinate with technical managers regarding drydock planning, repairs, and maintenance schedules.
  • Participate in drydock progress reviews and provide feedback on cost control and quality of work.
  • Ensure compliance with Class, Flag, and Company standards, and follow-up on any deficiencies or outstanding items.
  • Support the performance department on vessel efficiency, consumption, and technical benchmarking.
  • Prepare summary reports and recommendations for management decisions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all technical and operational data.
  • Comply with the Company's internal control, data integrity, and corporate governance policies.

Qualifications:

  • Chief Engineer license
  • Seagoing experience as Chief Engineer, or relevant shore-based experience in a superintendent or technical monitoring role.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a similar position within the Dry Bulk sector.
  • Familiarity with planned maintenance systems, drydock preparation, and cost analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret technical and financial data (OPEX, KPIs, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data management tools; experience with Power BI or similar software will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, especially when dealing with third-party managers, suppliers, and shipboard staff.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • High sense of accountability, organization, and teamwork.
