Our engineering values- Know your Tech. Develop and master your craft, sharpen your tools. Be proud of your work.
- Release early & Iterate. Deliver prototypes and start gathering important feedback early on. Use that feedback to guide you. Don't be afraid to compromise, make sure to come back & tidy things up.
- Be a team player. Offer your help, listen and seek to understand. Step up & take initiative.
- Don't over- anything. Don't over-engineer, over-analyze, over-regulate, you get it.
- Enjoy your work. Celebrate success.
At the heart of Skroutz lies a large-scale Ruby on Rails application supported by multiple auxiliary services. Much like our product, our infrastructure stack is continuously evolving and most recently it underwent a full modernization and a successful migration to the Cloud (AWS).
Our infrastructure is primarily built on the following technologies:
- A wide range of AWS services including EKS, EC2, RDS, Lambda, and ECS.
- Cloudflare as the CDN solution of our choice; also helps us with WAF, DNS, ZeroTrust, and Video Streaming.
- Various database technologies including MariaDB, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, and Redis.
- Apache Kafka as our core data pipeline and Resque for application async job processing.
- GitHub as our main development platform with GitHub Workflows powering our pipelines.
- Prometheus, Grafana (plus Mimir and Loki), ELK stack, CloudWatch, and Datadog for observability.
- Several FLOSS components like Debian, Docker, HAProxy, and Nginx
- Several in-house tools and platforms written primarily in Python, Go, and Ruby.
You will be a member of the DevOps team, which is part of the greater SRE organization. The SRE group is roughly divided into three focus areas: managing production infrastructure, optimizing cloud workloads and engineering practices, and—where your team comes in—tackling the challenges of modern software delivery. The DevOps team ensures our workloads are cloud-native while providing the tooling to enable Product Engineering with a seamless, reliable development and deployment experience.
We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer with an automation focused mindset who is eager to tackle those tech challenges and provide high-quality deliverables. In your role, you'll be responsible to maintain, monitor, and optimize our integration and deployment infrastructure. We aim to move fast—deploying our main application to production up to 50 times a day—while ensuring a frictionless developer experience through best-in-class tooling and automation. Following the recent migration of to the Cloud, you will also play a key role not only on improving the existing Cloud infrastructure but in the ongoing effort to design and migrate the remaining on-premise systems to it; an opportunity to shape their architecture, drive modernization, and see them through to production in a performant and resource-efficient way.
What you will be doing- Maintaining and optimizing the software deployment and release processes used by our product development teams, enabling our application and our engineering team to scale.
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining our staging infrastructure and the new suite of remote development tools to further improve our teams' efficiency.
- Continuously improving the observability and reliability of CI/CD pipelines and all associated systems.
- Helping us finalize migrating our apps to AWS with a focus on modernizing and optimizing cloud resource utilization.
Requirements
"Hard" skills- Background as a DevOps engineer or SRE or a similar position (5+ years).
- Experience building and operating developer tools and workflows (GitHub Actions, Gitlab CI or similar).
- Expertise in designing and maintaining containerized environments for production, leveraging Docker and Kubernetes for high availability and scalability.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools and best practices with one or more IaC tools (Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, etc).
- Experience with one of the major IaaS providers, such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure (at Skroutz we favor AWS).
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK
- Εxperience with version control systems (Git).
- Desire to troubleshoot, optimize and build software tools.
- Familiarity managing Linux systems.
- A self-driven and solution-oriented attitude; is something broken? You can't help it unless you fix it
- Being open to receive & share constructive feedback, sharing knowledge and helping other team members through code reviews and mentoring sessions.
- Effective communication and writing skills with a strong tendency to "document as you go".
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Working knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, Go, or Ruby being a plus).
- Experience with designing and troubleshooting large systems with many components.
- Familiarity with database technologies (MariaDB, MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
- Contributions to open-source projects; sharing contributions or personal projects will help us during the evaluation process.

- A great opportunity to contribute to the evolution of Skroutz towards becoming one of Europe's fastest growing Marketplaces
- Thrive in an environment that champions ambitious goals, empowers autonomy, fosters mentoring, and unlocks exciting opportunities for both personal and business growth
