Data Architect

Are you passionate about designing and evolving the data architecture that powers critical marketing analytics and customer insights for a global brand? Do you thrive on translating complex business needs into robust, scalable data solutions, all while championing engineering best practices and continuous improvement?

As our new Data Architect, you will lead the MarCom Transformations data platform, bridging data and software engineering disciplines. You will provide architectural oversight for a modern stack built on dbt and Snowflake, guiding senior data engineers while collaborating with business stakeholders.

What will your day look like?

As a part of the MarCom Transformations team, you will be:

• Designing and evolving the data architecture that powers Volvo's marketing analytics and customer insights
• Collaborating with data engineers to review pull requests, pair on complex problems, and unblock technical challenges
• Translating business requirements from marketing stakeholders into robust, scalable data solutions
• Balancing strategic planning with hands-on work—some days you're whiteboarding architecture, other days you're debugging a dbt model
• Driving continuous improvement through better testing, documentation, and observability across the platform

Your Key Responsibilities

• Architectural oversight of Snowflake data warehouse and integrations
• Review and guide solutions from senior data engineers
• P1 incident response and resolution
• Stakeholder management and technical translation
• Enforce software engineering best practices (CI/CD, TDD, code reviews, GitOps)
• Scope, estimate, and plan technical features
• Drive data quality, monitoring, and performance optimization

In this role you will work closely together with senior data engineers, analytics engineers, marketing analysts, and project managers across VML MAP and Volvo Cars. • Snowflake - warehouse architecture, performance tuning, security
• dbt - transformation frameworks, testing, documentation
• dlt (dltHub) - Python-first data integration pipelines
• Terraform - Infrastructure as Code
• AWS - Lambda, Glue, ECS, Step Functions, S3, IAM
• GitHub Actions - CI/CD, GitOps workflows
• Python & SQL

You have knowledge of the following concepts

• Data Mesh & Data Products
• GitOps / Everything as Code
• Modern ELT architecture

Furthermore, you have

• 5+ years of experience in data architecture or senior data engineering
• Experience with enterprise-scale data platform delivery
• Strong communication - translating technical concepts for business stakeholders
• Balance of hands-on execution and strategic thinking
