Network Engineer

As part of its development, Orizon (Powered by Volton) strengthens its human resources in Athens and seeks a Network Engineer.

This is an engineering role in a network operator and Telecommunications Service Provider (mobile and fixed), covering many segments of IP networks, such as core, transport, access and Data Center, and many aspects of the surrounding technology: IPv4/IPv6, interconnections, network security and VPN, L2 aggregation, Data Center networking, FTTH, NFV, etc.

This is an opportunity for a passionate Network Engineer who wants to be part of an exciting project, an ISP/MSP in the making.

The role is based in Metamorfosi, Athens, for our brand new Telecommunications company, Orizon.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate and support of networking infrastructure (switching, routing and firewalling) that support the needs of telecommunications systems, platforms and applications
• Develop, operate and support the IP network needed for the interconnection of the company with other service and  Internet upstream providers
• Evaluate and select solutions and architectures for the network and the required infrastructure that will support the telecommunications services
• Manage the virtual/physical assets (ASNs, IP addresses, equipment inventory etc.), as well as monitor the IP traffic
• Test any new equipment for introduction into the network
• Document and implement standard operating procedures for all network technologies deployed

Necessary Skills

• Excellent knowledge of Ethernet & IP technologies and more specifically: IPv4/IPv6 Interconnection, IP traffic routing & switching and aggregation technologies
• Routing: OSPF, BGP, MPLS
• Security: L3VPN, IPSec/SSL VPN
• L2: VLAN, STP, vPC, LAG
• Service provisioning: PPPoE, IPoE, BRAS/BNG, FTTH, OLT, ONT/ONU
• Very good knowledge in the installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of IP network equipment

Preferred Skills

• DNS, DHCP , AAA (RADIUS, LDAP)
• IPv6 transition technologies (IPv4aaS)
• Familiarity with security and hardening principles and technologies for telecommunications networks

Requirements

• University Degree or equivalent, in Engineering, Computer Science or similar
• At least 3 years of experience in Ethernet & IP technologies, ideally in a Telecommunication Service Provider environment or related technology Vendor/Integrator
• Experience with network monitoring (e.g. TICK stack) and automation (e.g. Ansible, Python) will be strongly considered
• Fluency in English both written and verbal
• Related certifications will be considered an asset, especially from Cisco
• Soft skills: problem-solving abilities, effective communication and teamwork are all considered as a must
