We are looking for an experienced Project Health & Safety Manager to lead and oversee Health & Safety activities across a major construction project in Elounda, Crete.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with applicable Greek and EU H&S legislation, project requirements and industry standards, while working closely with contractors, subcontractors and project stakeholders to promote a proactive and consistent safety culture. The candidate should be comfortable working in a complex construction environment and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure the highest Health & Safety standards throughout the project.
• Implement and monitor the Project Health & Safety Management Plan and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with Greek and EU H&S legislation, contractual requirements and project standards.
• Review contractors’ and subcontractors’ H&S documentation, including risk assessments, method statements and emergency plans.
• Conduct regular site inspections and safety walks, identifying risks and ensuring appropriate corrective actions.
• Monitor high-risk construction activities and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
• Coordinate H&S matters with contractors, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and follow up on corrective actions.
• Monitor emergency preparedness, site inductions and H&S training.
• Prepare H&S reports and monitor key safety performance indicators.
• Support internal, external and ISO 45001 audits.
• Act as the Employer’s Safety Coordinator in accordance with PD 305/1996, as amended.
• Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership, communication and continuous improvement. Qualifications & Skills
• University degree in Civil Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or another relevant discipline.
• Appropriate professional qualifications and legal eligibility to act as Safety Coordinator under PD 305/1996.
• Minimum 20 years of professional experience, including at least 10 years in a senior H&S role on major construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of Greek and EU occupational Health & Safety legislation.
• Proven experience in contractor supervision, site inspections, risk assessments, audits and incident investigations.
• Experience with ISO 45001 management systems.
• Excellent written and spoken Greek and English.
• Strong leadership, communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
