Role Overview
The Marine Superintendent ensures that the company's vessels are operated safely, efficiently and in full compliance with international regulations and company policies. The role requires a technically competent professional with sea-going engineering experience (minimum 3rd Engineer) who can oversee the operational, safety and compliance performance of the assigned fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the day-to-day operational performance of assigned vessels, focusing on safe and efficient navigation and engineering standards.
- Ensure compliance with ISM Code, ISPS Code, MARPOL, SOLAS, MLC, and all other applicable international and flag state requirements.
- Conduct onboard visits and internal audits to verify compliance with company SMS and industry standards.
- Support Masters and Chief Engineers in all operational and safety matters, providing guidance and solutions when required.
- Investigate and analyse marine incidents, machinery failures or near-misses, recommending and following up corrective actions.
- Liaise with the Technical, Crewing and HSEQ departments to coordinate maintenance, manning, and training activities.
- Prepare vessels for external inspections (PSC, Class, Rightship, Flag) and ensure all non-conformities are rectified promptly.
- Review voyage performance, fuel efficiency and compliance with CII / EEXI / EU ETS and other environmental standards.
- Contribute to cost control, operational budgeting and performance improvement of the assigned fleet.
- Participate in drills, management reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to promote a strong safety culture across the fleet.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Certificate of Competency 3rd Engineer or higher with relevant sea-going experience on ocean-going vessels (bulk carriers or general cargoes).
- At least 3–5 years of shore-based experience in a technical or marine superintendent role.
- Sound understanding of shipboard operations, marine safety, engineering systems and compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication and analytical skills.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken) proficiency with MS Office and planned maintenance.
- Willingness to travel for vessel visits, inspections and audits worldwide.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented and safety-conscious approach to work.
