As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will lead the design, deployment, and management of our containerized platforms, with a strong focus on
on-premises Kubernetes
and
Rancher
environments. You will be responsible for delivering reliable GitOps release pipelines, robust monitoring solutions, and ensuring secure operations, including
patch management
and
DevSecOps practices
.

You'll collaborate closely with the customer plus other engineering and security teams to maintain and improve the operational health and security of our systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect, manage, and optimize on-premises Kubernetes clusters with Rancher
• Influence the technical direction of the TechOps team and get involved in the wider company's adoption of these technologies.
• Help prepare the live system to be performant and have the necessary capacity for major events and other times of peak system stress.
• Maintain and improve the in place GitOps-based deployment pipelines.
• Develop and maintain system monitoring and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana and Alert Manager.
• Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and artifact management via Artifactory.
• Implement and enforce DevSecOps best practices, including patch management and system hardening and driving security best practice across the wider development team
• Develop automation tools and scripts using Java, Go and Python.
• Occasionlly integrate with limited AWS services when needed, but with a primary focus on on-prem operations.
• Lead by example, providing mentorship and technical coaching to peers and junior engineers across the development team.
• Conduct and contribute to technical reviews, architecture discussions, and best practice sessions.

Key Requirements:

• Extensive experience managing live containerized environments with Kubernetes and Rancher in on-premises setups.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating GitOps workflows.
• Strong skills in monitoring, alerting, and telemetry with Prometheus and Grafana.
• Expertise in building, maintaining, and optimizing Jenkins pipelines and Artifactory repositories.
• Solid coding ability in Java, Go and Python for automation and tooling.
• Familiarity with database administration concepts.
• Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles, with practical experience in patch management and system hardening.
• Hands on experience supporting VMware above the hypervisor
• Good working knowledge of security-first design and compliance practices.
• Limited experience with cloud technologies (specifically AWS) is a plus but not the main focus.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders internally and with customers, being able to break down complex problems to the audience's need.
• Ability to lead and contribute to technical design reviews and collaborative problem-solving sessions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and thrive in collaborative environments.
• Good working knowledge of security-first design and compliance practices.
