We are seeking an experienced
System Architect – Application Architecture
to lead the design, implementation, and evolution of cloud-based systems supporting a global public health collaboration platform. This role is key to aligning business objectives with secure, scalable, and future-ready application architectures that enable advanced analytics, AI-driven capabilities, and digital collaboration tools.

You will work closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, and technical teams to translate strategic requirements into well-governed system architectures, while ensuring compliance with organizational cybersecurity and infrastructure standards.

This is a 6 month contract role with possibility of extension. Occasional on-site presence in Berlin, Germany may be required

What will you do...

• Lead the design and evolution of enterprise and application architecture aligned with business strategy
• Define and maintain architecture standards, best practices, and governance frameworks
• Design end-to-end cloud and application architectures and oversee system integration
• Manage and govern a dedicated Azure subscription in line with organizational policies
• Ensure security, compliance, cost optimization, and operational readiness
• Design scalable, cloud-native solutions using microservices, APIs, and modern design patterns
• Support DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code
• Enable AI-driven services and analytics platforms, including AI-enabling cloud services
• Provide architectural guidance throughout delivery and operational phases
• Collaborate closely with technical teams and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong expertise in cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP acceptable)
• Deep knowledge of application architecture, microservices, APIs, and system integration
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code
• Solid understanding of security, privacy, and compliance principles
• Proven ability to design complex, scalable, and secure cloud-native systems
• Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills

Experience & Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 7 years' experience in software and application architecture
• Proven experience acting as a System Architect and guiding technical teams

Experience in the following will be considered as an asset:

• Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, NIST)
• Background in Agile/SAFe and DevOps methodologies
• Experience with AI-enabled platforms and analytics systems
• Previous work with international organizations (e.g., WHO, UN)
