We are looking for a Claims Handler to join our Cargo Quality team and play a key role in monitoring and controlling cargo claims and related costs, supporting our commitment to accuracy, cost efficiency, and operational excellence.
Reporting to Port Services & Cargo Quality Senior Manager, key accountabilities include:
Claims Management
- Receive, register, handle and settle of claims related to cargo damages.
- Review and verify claim documentation, including survey reports, photos, delivery receipts, and correspondence.
- Assess liability and determine validity of claims in line with maritime laws and company policies.
- Raise reimbursement claims to insurance underwriters in accordance with policy rules. limitations and deductibles.
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with ship agents, insurers, P&I clubs, surveyors, and customers to gather required information for claims assessment.
- Coordinate surveys for damaged cargo and report findings.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of all claims in the system.
- Prepare claim reports, settlement proposals, and follow-up summaries.
- Monitor ongoing claims to ensure timely progress and closure.
- Provide administrative support to the Cargo Quality and Legal departments as needed.
Settlement & Recovery
- Negotiate claim settlements with insurers and customers.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to marine insurance policies and international shipping laws.
Required qualifications:
- University degree in Shipping or a related field.
- Relevant experience in claims handling, insurance, or logistics. Experience in the shipping industry will be considered an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Solid understanding of the shipping business environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Business Central ERP System, Power BI, or Microsoft Teams will be considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Greek and English.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A team player with a proactive, can-do attitude and strong collaboration skills across departments.
