Software Engineer

SYNTAX IT Group is expanding its Modernization Solutions team and is seeking a talented Software Engineer who is passionate about technology, eager to learn, and ready to work with some of the world's most strategic enterprise systems.

Our modernization services help large organizations evolve mission-critical platforms such as IBM iSeries (AS/400) and IBM Mainframe (z/Series), enabling them to leverage modern technologies including .NET, Java, Cloud, APIs, and AI.

This role combines software engineering, pre-sales engagement, and solution implementation, offering a unique career path with strong technical depth, business exposure, and continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

Presales & Solution Consulting

• Participate in presales activities including research, technical discussions, and solution presentations
• Support sales teams with technical insights and customer workshops
• Produce technical documentation and contribute to solution design

Implementation & Support

• Deploy, configure, and support our modernization products and services
• Deliver user training and provide ongoing technical assistance to clients
• Contribute to the implementation of modernization projects using your development skills
• Work with technologies such as COBOL, .NET/C#, Java, web services, APIs, and cloud platforms
• Assist in migrating, integrating, or extending legacy applications with modern frameworks

Continuous Learning

• Receive extensive hands-on training both in Greece and abroad on modernization tools, enterprise technologies, and best practices
• Gain exposure to cutting-edge modernization, AI-driven tooling, and enterprise software architectures

Skills & Qualifications:

• B.Sc. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• Working experience in software development with at least one of the following: COBOL (Micro Focus, iSeries, zSeries), .NET / C#, Java
• Ability and willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and methodologies
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
• Interest in enterprise systems, modernization, and pre-sales
• Problem-solving attitude and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Good command of English (written & spoken)

Nice to Have:

• Exposure to IBM iSeries (AS/400) or IBM Mainframe environments
• Experience in customer-facing technical roles
• Understanding of cloud concepts (Azure, AWS, GCP)
