What We're Looking For
The Maritime Emissions Reduction Centre (MERC) is an innovation-led, non-profit organization committed to advancing the decarbonization of global shipping. By leveraging data, digital technologies, and strategic collaborations, MERC empowers industry stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency and drive the transition toward a more sustainable maritime sector.
We are looking for a highly analytical and detail-focused Data Analyst to join the MERC team. In this role, you will play a key part in analysing complex maritime and environmental data, delivering actionable insights that guide strategy, influence policy, and support emissions reduction efforts throughout the shipping industry.
What We Offer You

- This is a fixed-term contract for an initial period of two years
The role
- Collect, process and analyse large-scale datasets from sources such as vessel noon-reports and high frequency data, AIS, fuel consumption records, and regulatory disclosures (e.g. IMO DCS, EU MRV).
- Develop data models and conduct statistical analyses to evaluate vessel performance, fuel usage, GHG emissions and equipment efficiency.
- Support predictive modelling and scenario analysis related to vessel performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with ship operators, engineers, and sustainability teams to identify performance improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross functional team – technical, regulatory, research – to deliver data-driven insights in-line with the MERC's mission.
- Collaborate with partners and external consultants on data related projects and to identify performance improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and continual improvement of MERC's data infrastructure, governance and quality control
- Create clear, concise and impactful reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, policies, and regulations related to marine decarbonisation and data.
- Assist with the preparation of reports and briefing notes on issues related to maritime decarbonisation.
What You Bring
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Environmental Science, Maritime Studies, Statistics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in data analytics, preferably in the maritime sector.
- Experience working with maritime datasets and high frequency data for performance analysis.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages (Python, R, SQL, Excel)

- Familiarity with statistical modelling techniques (regression, time series analysis, clustering, etc.)
- Strong analytical thinking with a problem-solving mindset.
- The ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- The ability to communicate with a variety of audiences, including non-experts.
- Proficient in English and Greek.
Preferred But Not Required
- Knowledge of ship operations and maritime environmental regulations is a plus.
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques and predictive analytics.

You Are Someone Who
- Is keen to take accountability and ownership for delivering customer needs
- Is able to self-manage and prioritize tasks towards achieving goals
- Is effective at solving problems, trouble-shooting and making timely decisions
- Is flexible and eager to take initiatives
