We are currently recruiting for the position of
Waste & Water Coordinator
with the following responsibilities:

  • Monitors and audits the performance of Athens International Airport (AIA)'s approved waste management contractors through onsite inspections, ad-hoc checks, regular meetings with related parties, and review/approval of invoices to ensure compliance with legal and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinates with 3rd parties and contractors to ensure the efficient provision of waste management services across various airport functions.
  • Analyzes and reports waste data for AIA and 3rd parties to support the financial management of waste management in collaboration with Finance Department.
  • Develops and implements initiatives aimed at reducing waste production, increasing recycling rates, and upgrading AIA's waste management systems and infrastructure.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with European and national waste management legislation by regularly reviewing regulatory updates and effecting necessary actions within AIA and its partners across the airport site.
  • Prepares contributions (text, tables, charts) for the biannual Environmental Report to the Ministry of Environment & Energy and supports AIA's corporate communications through various media platforms.
  • Conducts environmental monitoring by analyzing measurements of key environmental quality parameters (e.g., surface water, groundwater, Sewage Treatment Plant effluent, etc.), managing chain-of-custody documentation, and overseeing the collection of non-hazardous water media samples.

The Qualifications and the skills required for this position are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, the Physical Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Geology), or related field.
  • Approximately 5 years of relevant working experience.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office and project management tools; skilled in using specialized sampling equipment.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license; Strong adherence to safety protocols, operational guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Results-oriented mindset with adaptability, reliability, problem-solving ability, and a drive for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and take initiative to implement innovative and effective solutions.
