About the RoleThe Company has an open position in the Legal & Insurance Department for 2 persons of first to be highly skilled Legal Counsel and 2nd person as Legal Department Assistance to support insurance, claims handling, and corporate legal matters.
RequirementsRESPONSIBILITIES
Handle and manage all types of insurance claims (primarily cargo, FD&D, H&M, medical, and others) including collection, preparation, submission of supporting documents, and follow-up with insurers, brokers, and P&I clubs.
Obtain and compare quotations from approved insurance providers, evaluate options, and submit recommendations to Management for approval; bind coverage once approved.
Liaise with insurance brokers, underwriters, surveyors, P&I clubs, and other relevant parties to resolve claims in the best interest of the shipowners.
Collect and document all expenses related to insurance casualties; submit claims to P&I Clubs or underwriters and ensure timely reimbursement.
Examine, draft, review, and negotiate all types of contracts the company may enter into, including sale and purchase agreements and financing/mortgage documentation; follow up on execution.
Manage disputes, claims, and litigation processes in coordination with external counsel.
Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial, and maritime matters, including compliance with sanctions and insurance restrictions.
Ensure accuracy and currency of all corporate documents and records; assist with corporate formation, dissolution, and record-keeping.
Maintain communications with lawyers, notaries, and other legal professionals as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Marine/Shipping Law (or equivalent).
The highly skilled Legal Counsel with minimum five years' relevant work experience in maritime, insurance, or corporate legal matters.
The Legal Department Assistance with minimum three years' relevant work experience in maritime, insurance, or corporate legal matters.
Experience with Danaos software preferred (or equivalent).
Strong data entry and Microsoft Office skills; competent IT skills.
Strong bookkeeping skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Organized, timely, and able to handle multiple priorities.
