The Leader of Musical Theatre at St Catherine's British School will play a central role in enriching the school's co-curricular life by running our secondary Musical Theatre Club. The postholder will lead weekly sessions that inspire and challenge students, fostering creativity, collaboration, and performance skills. Reporting to the Deputy Head Co-Curricular and liaising with the Head of Music and Head of Theatre, the successful candidate will have the enthusiasm and expertise to engage young people in all aspects of musical theatre, including acting, singing, and movement, and to direct performance opportunities within the school year.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong performing arts experience who is passionate about working with young people. The post is part-time, requiring a set number of hours per week during term time.

Position Overview

The Leader of Musical Theatre will design and deliver engaging co-curricular sessions in musical theatre, developing students' performance skills, confidence, and appreciation of the arts. The role includes preparing students for an annual musical theatre production, showcases, or other school events, and ensuring that rehearsals and productions are well-organised, inclusive, and high-quality.

Main responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver weekly Musical Theatre Club sessions for secondary students.
  • Teach and direct students in acting, singing, and movement, developing skills across all three disciplines.
  • Prepare students for performance opportunities during the school year, including an annual musical theatre production.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Music, Head of Theatre, and Deputy Head, Co-Curricular to integrate the club into the wider school co-curricular programme.
  • Ensure rehearsals and performances are safe, inclusive, and well-structured.
  • Inspire enthusiasm and commitment among students, fostering creativity, teamwork, and resilience.
    Maintain high expectations of behaviour, participation, and performance.

While the above includes a description of the essential functions of the position, other duties may be assigned by the Deputy Head Co-curricular as appropriate.
