As part of our growing operations, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Financial Controller to join our team in Athens. This role plays a critical role in owning the company's financial planning, budgeting and forecasting process to support the executive team in effective decision making.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Financial Manager, this role is responsible for evaluating the financial performance of the company by analyzing actual results and comparing them with plans and forecasts. Also, responsible for overseeing the accounting functions of the company, including the maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls. This role will be critical in finding new ways to increase accounting and financial efficiency, boost productivity, simplify processes and automate tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis:
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and financial modelling.
- Evaluate and interpret financial data to provide insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports to management and key stakeholders.
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with various departments to develop and manage the budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Maintain financial models to monitor budget performance and provide explanations for variances.
Strategic Planning:
- Assist in the development of long-term financial plans and strategies.
- Analyze the impact of various scenarios on the financial performance of the organization.
- Provide financial insights to support strategic initiatives and business development opportunities.
Data Management:
- Collect, consolidate, and analyse financial data from various sources.
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy in financial reporting.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant financial information and insights.
- Work closely with other departments to understand business drivers and challenges.
Ad Hoc Analysis:
- Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as requested by management.
- Respond to inquiries and provide financial support to different business units.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously assess and improve accounting and financial processes for efficiency and effectiveness or identify areas for process improvement.
- Implement best practices and stay abreast of changes in accounting standards.
Requirements
Professional Experience
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience in progressively responsible financial roles.
- Proficiency in reporting, financial analysis, forecasting, and modelling using spreadsheets, financial software and BI Tools.
Academic Background & Qualifications
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; Master's degree and professional qualification (ACCA, CFA, CPA) will be considered an asset.
Languages & Technical Capabilities
- Fluency in Greek and English, both written and spoken.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (experience in Entersoft will be considered a plus) and proficiency in financial software.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills – Excel, PowerPoint, Word.

- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability and presentation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
