Summary / Role Purpose  

The R&D Engineer is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to design, develop, and deploy software applications for on-prem and cloud platforms using containerization technologies.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

• Participates in planning, architecture, and research around on-prem and cloud deployments. 

• Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design and solver research. 

• Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions. 

• Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions. 

• Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities. 

• May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports. 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

• BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Quantitative Sciences with at least 5 years of commercial experience in software development.

• At least 2 years of Python experience in a commercial setting.

• Experience with REST APIs and Cloud services implementation and deployment.

• Proficiency in automated testing and CI/CD practices.
• Value-oriented, self-motivated, fast learner. 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

• Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. 

• Experience delivering reusable microservices and related client libraries for use by a large number of end-user applications across a range of deployment environments. 

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.

• Experience developing reusable microservices and related client libraries for use by a large number of end-user applications across a range of deployment environments. 

• Knowledge of or experience with Agile SDLC and DevOps processes and tools. 

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
